HORNCASTLE AREA PAGE
Horncastle Area Mothers’ Union is located in the north-east of Lincolnshire and covers three deaneries – Louthesk, Horncastle, Calcewaithe & Candleshoe.
Louthesk has three branches – Binbrook and Louth Holy Trinity
Horncastle has six branches – Bardney, Coningsby & Tattershall, Horncastle with Thimbleby, Woodhall Spa and Wragby
Calcewaithe & Candleshoe has 3 branches – Alford, Burgh le Marsh and Skegness & Winthorpe.
Sadly the Area President, Marjorie Woodcock recently passed away leaving the post vacant, the Revd Daphne King remains as Area Chaplain.
Each deanery has a Leader and every branch a Leader. All branches meet monthly. In the Diocese of Lincoln there are two meetings per year to which every member is invited, Summer Council and Winter Council. Winter Council was held on 17th November 2007 at Horncastle and our Speaker was Reg Bailey, Mothers’ Union Chief Executive.
The Area holds two Area Days – in May 2007, our first Day was held in Louth when the Revd David de Verny spoke about Migrant Workers; the second was held in Woodhall Spa when Elizabeth Megahey updated us on Faith & Policy issues. Already arranged for 2008 is a day at Binbrook when Jenni Honisett promises a day of fun – ‘Enthusing, Encouraging and Inspiring’
Mothers’ Union members endeavour to pray daily for our 4 million members throughout the world in some 78 countries. In 2008 Mothers’ Union branches hope to link existing programmes into nationally publicised issues.
Members already help with prison crèches, serve coffee at St Benedict’s Centre, Lincoln, support women’s refuges and support the Away From It All holiday scheme.
There are many opportunities to join with other members for worship, prayer, support – if anyone one would like more information please contact the Diocesan Secretary on 01522 527145, email@example.com
